heat pipe based air-to-air heat exchanger

The Control Panel Cooler/ Heat Extractor is a heat pipe based air-to-air heat exchanger. It ensures maintenance free heat dissipation from the heated components of the sealed electric or electronic control panels/enclosures.
The heat pipe is a self contained passive device which can transfer upto 1000 times more thermal energy than copper, with less than -16°C per foot temperature drop.
What's more amazing is that heat pipes have no moving parts, require no external energy (other than the heat they transfer), are reversible in operation and completely silent. And like any piece of tubing or pipe, they are rugged and can withstand a lot of abuse.
The heat pipe consists of three elements
- a sealed container
- a capillary wick structure
- a working fluid.
Heating any part of the external surface causes the instantaneous evaporation of the working fluid near that surface.
The rapid generation of vapour creates a pressure gradient within the heat pipe which forces the excess vapour to a remote area of the heat pipe where because of lower pressure and temperature, condensation occurs on the tube wall and the latent heat of vaporization is transferred.
The heat is removed from the external surface by conduction, convection or radiation. This process is continuous. The transfer efficiency of the heat pipe is over 99%.
Why do you need the control panel cooler/ heat extractor?
Over heating of sensitive components of electric and electronics control panel and enclosures is a major problem faced by all the large and integrated control panel users.
Today's electrical/electronics are assembled in dense packaging and small enclosure. Thus, the more sophisticated and complicated the electronic/electrical controls, the more sensitive they are to heat.
Moisture and contaminants like the airborne dust, oil, dirt, etc., damage sensitive electronic/electrical components/ equipment. Sealed enclosures try to ensure protection from the contaminants but results in overheating. Over heating causes reliability problems, operational failure and unnecessary downtime.
The small and compact Control Panel Cooler/ Heat Extractor is an ideal device to solve the problem of over heating in control panel /enclosures. It efficiently cools the air(inside the Control Panel); all the time maintaining the panel's protective sealing against outside contaminants.

| The heat extractor is installed half inside and half outside the control panel/cabinet. The blower fan in the inner half of the extractor draws the air heated by the electric/electronic components over the heat pipe section in the inner half. The heat pipe core, absorbs the heat and transfers it to the outer section of the core outside the panel. On the outer section, of the heat extractor, ambient air is blown over the heatpipe core by a separate blower fan, thus, dissipating heat absorbed by the heat pipe core from inside the control panel. This way the heat generated inside the control panel keeps on getting extracted continuously. The electric/ electronic components are thus cooled effectively without being exposed to outside components as the two air streams are kept completely separate. | ||

The "inside" blower fan then draws this coolness and recirculates the now cool air inside the panel, thus, cooling the over heated components. The entire process of heat dissipation/extraction takes places without actual air flow from outside to inside or vice versa. Thus, the components inside the control panel are totally isolated and protected from outside contaminants. |
